The Atlantech® Blood Water Treatment System is designed
to provide effective disinfection of blood water and wastewater
generated by fish processing facilities. Developed in Norway,
the process has been tested and accredited by the Norwegian
Veterinary Institute to provide bacteria/virus reduction better
than 3 log phase (99.9%).
Through the addition of a Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) System,
the treatment system will also significantly reduce BOD, TSS
and fats / oils.
All blood water and wastewater generated as a result of fish
processing operations is piped from the facility to a collection
sump. From the collection sump it is pumped to a self-cleaning
belt filter, which removes all solids greater than 350 microns.
Separated solids are directed to the plants existing offal/morts
management system and the filtered water is pumped to a large
storage tank. The filtered wastewater is next pumped from the
storage tank through the DAF system to remove dissolved organics
and fine suspended solids. From the DAF system, the water is
gravity fed into the disinfection tank. In the disinfection
tank, a chlorine solution is added and the pH of the wastewater
is adjusted to maximize disinfection efficiency. To ensure
optimum chlorine contact, the tank contents are continually
mixed while the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) of the
mixture is monitored and recorded. After approximately 15 minutes,
the disinfection process is complete and following de-chlorination
to less than 0.5 mg/l chlorine residual, the disinfected effluent
is safely discharged.
Atlantech® Chlorinated Effluent Disinfection Systems have the following features:
- PLC automated and controlled;
- Capability to treat and disinfect bloodwater;
- Components designed and selected for maximum corrosion resistance;
- System flexible to accommodate existing spaces where necessary;
- “State of the Art” DAF technology minimizes short-circuit
currents, temperature gradients and turbulence;
- Disinfection process has been tested and accredited by the
Norwegian Veterinary Institute to effectively kill group B
pathogens (including ISA and IPN);
- Belt filter and DAF sludge produced with very high solids content;
- Optional plate and frame filter press available to fully maximize
sludge solids content.
