October, 2003 – Northern Cod Ventures Ltd. Awards Atlantech^® Companies the Contract to Supply Cod Hatchery Systems

Atlantech^® Companies was recently awarded the contract to supply Northern Cod Ventures (NCV) with a state of the art cod hatchery located in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, Canada.

Atlantech was initially contracted to carry out all system design relating to water supply, water disinfection, water recirculation / re-use, water conditioning and effluent treatment. Upon completion of the system design, Atlantech was awarded the contract to manufacture, supply and install all specialized components, namely:

• A state of the art Water Supply Disinfection System that incorporates both ozone and UV to protect against pathogen exposure. The Disinfection System design incorporates the latest knowledge regarding effective sterilization of seawater against the most noteable pathogens such as viral neural necrosis.
• A Brookstock System that incorporates re-use technology, water conditioning, microfiltration, temperature / photoperiod control and unique tank features required to facilitate spawning.
• A Larval Culture / Nursery System designed for flow through with capacilty to convert to re-use / recirculation in future.
• An Effluent Treatment System that incorporates Atlantech® Drum Filter technology to polish water of suspended solids prior to discharge or re-use.

This $3.5 million turn-key facility is expected to produce 600,000 cod juveniles per year with eventual expansion to 1.2 million and will generate (how many) jobs for the local community.
